Painting In The open In Van Gogh Museum- until April 10, 2011
The research project Van Gogh’s studio practice, a collaboration with ICN and Shell, focuses not only on Van Gogh but also on the studio practice of his contemporaries and predecessors. That’s why this year’s annual presentation on this research features a painting by one of the artists who served as a source of inspiration to Van Gogh: Cliffs at Villerville-sur-Mer (1864-1872) by Charles-François Daubigny. This work was regarded as a milestone in the Impressionist tradition as it was held to have been painted in its entirety in the open air. Recent research, however, shows this to be a myth.
This exhibition is on view until April 10, 2011 in the van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. For more information, please visit; www.vangoghmuseum.nl
Holland in Bloom – March 24 to May 20 2011
Anyone with an interest in flowers should visit the Keukenhof in the springtime, where you can find an amazing 7 million bulbs! Besides all the various flower and tree exhibits, there are sculptural exhibits throughout the gardens, flower arrangement displays, two indoor pavilions, three self-service cafe-restaurants in different parts of the garden, flower shops, a small animal enclosure and a working windmill open for exploration. Many growers are represented at Keukenhof and all are eager to take your orders for delivery abroad for family and friends. The name derives from the kitchen gardens (Keukenhof) once part of the enormous estate of the Castle Teylingen from the 15th century.
The central theme this year is a tribute to Germany, as the largest exporter of bulbs and flowers and for the tens of thousands of visitors. Situated southwest of Amsterdam, the park is easily accessible by car or bus and from Haarlem and Leiden. http://www.keukenhof.nl/
Van Gogh in Bloom
This year the park has partnered with the Van Gogh Museum to present Van Gogh in Bloom the collaboration highlights the Van Gogh Museum’s Blossom exhibition, and a flower mosaic of Van Gogh’s Self-portrait with felt hat has been planted at Keukenhof.
Blossoming trees fascinated Van Gogh. When in search of sunlight and peace he took up residence in Arles in 1888, he made one painting after another in the orchards around the city. These colourful works, including Small pear tree in blossom, shows Van Gogh’s enthusiastic reaction to the beginning of spring. He also enjoyed painting the flowering trees in the garden of the asylum he was confined to in Saint-Remy, for example the famous Almond blossom, which he made for his nephew Vincent Willem. Blossom presents a selection of his paintings of flowers from the Van Gogh Museum’s collection. www.vangoghmuseum.nl

Vermeer in Royal Delft Blue - October 4, 2010 to June 2011
Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) is one of the Netherlands’ most famous painters from the 17th century. His name is inextricably linked to Delft, the city where he was born in 1632 and where he lived and worked his whole life. “De Porceleyne Fles Anno 1653”, known around the world as Royal Delft, is the leading producer of the world-famous Delftware. Royal Delft has always been inspired by the paintings of Johannes Vermeer and reproduces many versions of his famous works. After all, Royal Delft is a contemporary of Vermeer that is still in existence today.
Little is known about Vermeer himself, as he only created 34 works of art in his lifetime. He is mainly known for his intimate and serene depictions of bourgeois life. Thus he created paintings with titles like Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Milkmaid and View of Delft. Perhaps his most famous painting is View of Houses in Delft, also known as The Little Street. The street painted by Vermeer is world-famous but at the same time unknown in Delft. It is not clear which street Vermeer painted or whether it even ever really existed.
From October 4, 2010 to June 2011 visitors will be able to personally view the progress of the masterpiece in the museum.

Photographer between Memory and Future in the Jewish Historical Museum
November 29, 2010 until March 6, 2011
In the 1940s and 50s, the photographer Boris Kowadlo (1911-1959) compiled a unique visual archive of Jewish life in the Netherlands and Israel. He took memorable photographs of Amsterdam’s decrepit, abandoned Jewish quarter, while also documenting, as a photojournalist, the reconstruction of the Dutch Jewish community after 1945. Kowadlo’s photo essays on the young state of Israel display not only his great talent and professionalism, but also his faith in a new future. The JHM presents the first broad retrospective of the work of this Dutch-Polish photographer.
This exhibition is on from November 29, 2010 until March 6, 2011 in the Jewish Historical Museum
