Travel inland & over the borders

  • Holland is the ‘Gateway to Europe’, with easy access over the borders to Germany and Belgium.  Express trains link to France and London is just a hop and a skip away either under or over the English Channel, flights are also only an hour away.
  • From Maastricht in Limburg in the south of Holland is Liege and Antwerp in Belgium and close by is the Roman city of Aachen in Germany.
  • On the south-western coast is Zeeland, a region of islands, peninsulas with a sandy coastline. A long inlet leads to the Oosterschelde, for boat trips to tour the Storm Surge Barrier, close to Belgium.
  • To the east of the country is the Lower Rhine region linking Holland with Germany. On the borders are Arnhem and Nijmegen in Gelderland and Den Bosch in Noord Brabant is also close to the borders of both Germany and Antwerp in Belgium.
  • In the northern part off the coast of Groningen and Friesland are the remote Waddenzee islands
  • Bordering the North Sea along the western coast is Zandvoort in the region of Haarlem and Amsterdam. In Zuid Holland is the beach area of Scheveningen at The Hague and Rotterdam harbour is a little further south.

Also check my website at www.aguide2holland.com for more details on towns and cities in Holland and the Resource links for Expats. This includes a destination guide with the attractions.
